About Matching Intent with the right AI tools for Lawyers  

This initiative helps lawyers navigate a vast array of AI tools that can solve legal issues. Determining the right tool requires understanding the lawyer’s intent and choosing- and executing- the best available tool that fits the risk management acceptability of the situation. 

CORTO includes tools such as Matter AI and Legal Research. Matter AI allows a lawyer to use AI within the context of their legal matter. Legal Research allows them to use AI to extract the most accurate information from the outside world. There are other tools such as InfoTrack (including MCP services) to access government and other systems of record. 

Lawyers operate across a wide range of risk tolerance. The most adventurous may use tools such as Claude for Work or OpenClaw, while the most conservative may have made undertakings to clients that they won’t use AI that has any offshore inference. This module must select an option that fits the lawyer’s constraints and the task at hand. 

The role is to use AI to choose the best possible tool that fits within the risk tolerance and availability of the lawyer and execute the requested operation. You will be responsible for building the user interface and intelligence to provide the best possible outcome for each request made by a lawyer. 

This is a senior position working with leaders across key products such as Matter AI, Legal Research and InfoTrack. You will own the module that will be added to the CORTO platform to provide this capability, reporting to the Founder and majority shareholder with the autonomy needed to succeed.

What you’ll do  

As the Lead Developer, you will:  

• Architect, design, and deliver a platform that will be used across CORTO and become foundational to our AI ecosystem.  

• Work directly With the Founder  

• Collaborate with CORTO’s Founder to define strategy, prioritise development, and deliver at pace.  

• Own the Technical Architecture  

• Design the end-to-end system, from document-type detection to intelligent action generation, integrations, workflows, and user experience.  

• Define the Engineering Culture  

• Set the standards, practices, and operating rhythms for a team that will grow internationally. 

To make this happen, you will:  

• Architect and deliver the intent-to-tool orchestration module for CORTO 

• Build scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services and polished frontend experiences.  

• Prototype, test, and refine AI-driven features that work reliably with generative AI models.  

• Establish engineering processes, DevOps workflows, observability, and quality standards.  

• Collaborate cross-functionally with other AI teams, product leaders, and senior stakeholders. 

What you’ll bring  

You’re a curious, self-driven engineer who wants to build meaningful technology.   

• 8+ years of professional experience in full-stack development.  

• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js, or other modern frameworks.  

• Strong experience in system design, database architecture, and API development.  

• Experience working with generative AI, automation workflows, or agent-based systems is highly desirable.  

• Proven experience building and leading engineering teams.  

• Ability to hire, coach, motivate, and scale a high-performing team.  

• Excellent communication skills, including working directly with executive leadership.
